The Filabres Mountains area is a beautiful fertile green open valley stretching 50km between the Almeria Coast and the Baza¸ Granada area. At just 70km off the coast this area has plenty to offer for those interested in living in “traditional Spain” but being within easy reach the mountains¸ coast and airports. This area of Almeria is impressive¸ with its fields covered in rows of olive and orange trees and surrounded by hills and valleys. The area is dotted with historic Moorish villages on the hilltops¸ farms and wildlife. The Sierra Filabres is one of the best areas in Andalucia for bird-watching. Serron is located in the sunniest part of the Sierra Filabres and is a beautiful whitewashed Spanish hilltop village with its castle and mountain backdrop. Just a short drive into the mountains is the old mining town of Las Menas¸ now converted to a tourist complex and restaurant. The larger market towns of the Filabres Mountains area of Tijola¸ Macael¸ Albox and Olula del Rio have all amenities and are connected via an excellent road network to the local villages¸ motorway and the coast.
